Custom Engineering Manager
Description:
The Custom Engineering Manager will lead a team of skilled mechanical designers responsible for the timely design of sheet metal fabrication solutions, special shape tooling, and other custom mechanical products for industrial customers around the world.Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Custom Engineering team, particularly the timely design of custom mechanical fabrication and workholding products; and requests for technical support.Take ownership and follow through on customers' issues to secure resolution.Establish and maintain effective procedures to ensure a high level of quality, reliability, functionality, and manufacturability of product designs are provided for customer-special applications.Collaborate across the organization to develop, refine, implement, and monitor processes, policies, and procedures to:
improve cost, quality, delivery, and/or efficiency.Participate in the design of custom products to augment design capacity as needed.Serve as the CAD/PDM expert/admin, including the development and implementation of new techniques, processes, and workflows to maximize efficiency; and the coordination of software upgrades, including; research, testing, implementation, and user training.Recruit, mentor, and develop mechanical designers within the team and nurture an environment where they can excel through encouragement, empowerment, and collaboration with other departments.Manage staff schedules via the software portal to assure optimum staff availability.Support continuous improvement and lean initiatives, including 6S and Kaizen activities.Prepare monthly productivity, quality, and delivery metrics.Collaborate with others, is open-minded, responsive, and supportive of others' efforts to succeed.Demonstrates integrity by being reliable, and dependable, exhibiting good judgment and honesty, and taking responsibility for their own actions.Respectful of others, encouraging others to share their ideas while actively listening to others, and having common courtesy.Other duties as assigned.Requirements:
A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in a mechanical design or engineering-related position.Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.Experience leading a team or supervising employees is preferred.Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.Advanced troubleshooting and multi-tasking skills.Awareness of the latest technology trends and applications within the industry.Good understanding of management practices and techniques.Good leadership and interpersonal skills.Proficient knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).Experience with CAD/PDM applications.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.Time Management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
